Chess Enthusiasts Revive Club In Levin

Some y.ears ago there was an actiye chess club in' Levin, but for some time now it has not functioned.' Thrpugh the initiative and energy of Mr. R. Woodfield, a meeting of those intereste.d "was held recent1 y at the Hprowhenuq, College, and as a resuit the Levin District Chess Club was foraied. Officers were elected as follows: — President: Mr. S. S. McMinn; secretary-treasurer: Mr. B. Nairn; club eaptain: Mr. R. Woodfield; vice-captain: Mr. J. Perigo. It wgs decide;d that until such time as fhe newly-formed club "was able to obtain the use of a • c'ub ropm, whjch is highly probable in the next few wee'ks," those ihterested will m'eet at 7-30 R m- at the home of Mr. S. S. McMinn, Bath Street, and Mr. Perigo," Hereford Street, commencing with the former on bfonday, June 13. The objects of the club are to widen the circle of local chess playeps, to raise the "general standard of play'ahd to assist and encourage beginpers and young people. Tp this end the subscriptions are as follows: — Each m.ember, 5s per year and 2s 6d payable per year for each additional m.ember of the family; school pupils, 2s 6d per year; ls per night pgid by each player and 6d * for each junibf; " The* spbscfiptions will be reviewed when the club obtains the' proposed room, bearing iri mind any additional costs which may haveTo'be uridertaken as a resuit of obtaining the room.
