Obituary

MR. W. Z. PRESTON-THOMAS. The death occurred suddeniy on May 26 at Hastings of Mr. William Z. Preston-Thomas, who was born in Eng.and in 1877. He was the eidest son of Mr. H. Preston-Thomas, C.B., who was ciosely associated with Poor Law reform. Mr. Preston-Thomas came to New Zealand in 1894 at the age of 17 &nd worked as a cadet on the "Ferngrove" farm of Mr. Halcombe, in Taranaki. He married the youngest daughter of the house, Miss Queenie Halcombe, and took up farming neaf Otaki. In 1908, after revisiting England, he • settled in Toliemacne Road, Hastings, where he p.an\.ed and worked the "Mortieigh" orchard. Mr. PrestonThomas was twice married. His first wife died in 1914 and his second wife soon after his retirement a few years ago. He. leaves a son and three daughters.
