Large-Scale Air Tests Over Britain
Reeeived Wednesday 7 p.m. LONDON, June 1. Large scale combined air exereises in which units from Western Union Air Forces and from United States squadrons based in Britain will participate, will take plaee over South-east England, East Anglia and the Midlands between June 25 and -July 3. Franee, Belgium and Holland are sending officers and observers and the Netherlands Air Force is sending a squadron of jet fighters. United States Superfortresses will cooperate with the Royal Air Force Bomber Commaud in providing the ' ' attackiug" bomber force. Defence forces will be provided from permanent R.A.F. fighter sqnadrons assisted by units of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force. The Royal Cbserver Force will provide 800,000 volunteers to man ground posts, and all available units of the regular and territorial anti-aireraft defence will be mobilised. The exereises will include night and day fighter attacks upon airports and installations and defence against bombing raids. The exereises will be under the general direction of Air-Marshal Sir Basil Embry, air officer commanding Fighter Command.
