Next Band Contest To Be At Christchurch
-WELLINGTON, May 31,. The 1950 New Zealand Brass Baricls Association 's Dominion eontest will b'e held in Christchurch, aceording to a decision reached at the annual meeting of tlie association. A meeting of Christchurch citizens will probably be held to form a contest committee. The judging will be done by one judge instead of a panel of three judges as previously. In the event of tes$ solos being unavailable, solos are to be limited t'o eight minutes. Hymn tests will be divided into grades in future contests. It was decided also to adopt the British system of replaoenient under whicb a band requiring a replacenient ,will be allowed to play onlv a eorresponding player from the band playing- immediateiy before it. If a band requiring a replacement draws first place then it can take a replacement only from the band drawing last place. The meeting supported a Masterton resolution that in future the alloeo tion of hotels for the accommodatiou of bandsmen be by ballot. The election of oftieers resulted:--President, Mr'J. P. Skoglund (Wellington) ; North Island vice-presidents, Messrs P. Brady and J. C. King (Wel-
lington); South Island vice-presidents, Messrs L. C. Trhvers and G. H. Bailey (Christchurch); management committee North Island, Messrs R. E. Belgrave (Palmerston North), E. Ormrod (Wellington), and R. Ilowarth (Auckland); South Island, Messrs R. Simpson and W. G. Stevenson (Christchurch), and A. G. Ilomer (Dunedin). The resignation of Mr J. G.
