Mr. G. L. O'Halloran has been , appointed Assistant Under-Secre-tary of the Department of Internal Affairs. He wfll take. the p.ace of the'late Mr. F. B. Stephens who was killed in the Waikanae air disaster in March., • Mr. W. ■ Anderson's retirement because of lll-health as delegate from Bie Athletic Football Club to the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, was announced at a recent meeting of that bcdy. Mr. A. V. Morgan was elected m his place. After nearly half a century of public service, Mr. R. F. Madden, who for some years has- acted as Deputy Commissioner of Poiice, has renred lrom tne Poiice Department. Mr. Madden joined the" Puolic Service in 1901 as a cddet in the Public Works Department and m 1910 was transferred to the Poiice Department. The death has occurred in Wellington of Mr. c. M. Malfroy, former advisory ofricer m the indigenous forest oranch- of the State Fofest Service and wel.-known timber expert. He was the father of CamLxe Malfroy, the New Ziealanu tennis player, - who is in Engiana. Mr. Ma froy, who retired lrom tne Public Service in 1933, was born at Ross and educated at Hokitika. He is survived by two sons and two daughfcers.
