Britain Helps Her Pig Farmers
The Natioual Farmers' Union which recehtly suggested to the Government that allocations of imported feeding stuffs should be increased by 2,250,000 tons in order to stimulate the produc-' tion of nigmeat, has now been infornied; by the Ministry of Agriculture that ar. extra allocation of 500,000 tons of pig food will be permitted over a period of 12 months. The allowance for farrowing • sows will be increased from 8cwt. A
to 9cwt. from July 1 and the bonus ration will be trebied from September 1. Farmers eonsider that the extra 500,000 tons of feeding stuffs will euable them to increase the production of pigmeat by about 50,000 to 80,000 tons in 12 months.
The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Tom Williams, vvlio announced the Government 's decision, said it was quite impractieable to obt>ain an increased supply of feeding stuffs on the scale suggested by the Farmers' Union. ■ ■ i A
