Gale and Rain in the North
(Per Press Association) 'AUCKLAND, May 29. Torrential rain with winds of gale force swept the Auckland province on Saturday. Moving from the far north on Friday night, the gale reached its peak in the Auckland district in the early afternoon and suddeniy passed. Today the weather was sunny and warm except in the far north. No roads were blocked but internal and overseas aireraft and ships were delayed. Fiooding occurred in the low lying areas but property dandage was slight. A maximum gust of 56 miles an hour was registered at the Weather Office at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. This marked the onset of the worst three hours weather Auckland had experienced for many months. Driving. in from tne Hauraki Gulf, the gale swept aeross the eity in frequent gusts of between 4U and 50 miles an hour. In the three hours between noon and 3 p.m., .90 inehes„of rain fell in the city. Nortn Auckland received the heaviest rainfall during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. on Saturday, 2.40 inches being registered at Kaitaia and 1.46 inehes at Onerahi.
