Ewe Values Rise At Feilding

Prices for tlie in-lamb ewe were-firm-er at yesterday's live stock sale in Feilding when 5-yr. lines of good quality slxeep in very good order sold from 39s 8d to 44s 7d. Of the entry of store sheep sonie 10 pens were of in-lamb ewes and most of these appealed as being a very healthy lot. There was nothing very attraetive in the way of 2-th wethers but hoggets were well represented, good ewe types making to 42s 6d and the best of the wethers were trade d at 35s. A rather big offering of fat sheep in splendid condition canie forward and sold readily on a steady market with wethers down on late rates but hoggets and ewes reflecting a frrming tendeney. Oue extra prime wether was traded at 50s, the lirst sale to reach this figure this season. There was no quotable change in station eattie values.

Fat Sheep Exceptionally good quality rnutton characterised the large entry of over 1000 head of fat sheep. This heavy seleetion on top of last week's yarding of over 1200 head had very little influence on average values which in the main were well sustained. Wether mutton of better quality in some instances was lower than last week and not aii were wanted. Top line ewes and hoggets were dearer but the market on the whole was firrn and with the exception of five pens, all were sold under the hammer. The realisations were: Maiden ewes: 14 at 45s ld; oue at 41s lOd; hoggets:* 2 at 33s lOd; 8 at 32s lOd; 28 at 43s lOd; 48 at 39s 4d; 3 at 35s 4d; 11 at 2Ss 4d; 12 at 31s lOd; 54 at 40s 7(1 71 at 36s ld; 35 at 26s 4d; 5 at 43s 4d; 91 at 35s lOd; 13 at 37s lOd; 48 ar 35s lOd; 78 at 39s ld; 10 at 38s lOd; 22 at 41s lOd; 23 at 41s lOd; 11 at 46s lOd; 36 at 35s lOd; 10 at 36s 4d; Down eross 2-ths: 19 at 44s ld; 29 at 42s 4d; 20 at 40s ld; 6 at 46s lOd; 8 at 35s; 12 at 41s 4d; 42 at 43s ld; 20 at 41s ld; 6 at 45s lOd; 4 at 42s 4d; 31 at 37s 4d; 7 at 44s 4d; 2 at 42s lOd; wethers: 16 at 47s 4d; 111 at 47s 6d; 30 at 47s 4d; 62 at 47s lOd; 2 at 43s lOd; 2S at 45s 7d; 15 at 46s lOd; 46 at 43s lOd; S at 45s 4d; oue at 50s; ewes: 19 at 32s 7d; 22 at 31s lOd; 6 at 29s ±d; 28 at 32s 7d; 42 at 30s ld; 20 at 23s ld; 8 at 27s lOd; 45 at 27s lOd; 12 at 28s 4d 62 at 35s 7d; 24 at 29s 4d; 9 at 31s lOd; 3 at 32s 4d; 38 at 32s ld; 18 at 33s 4d. Store Sheep

Features of the selling of store sheep of which some 2000 head were offered, were the rather keen biding for in-lainb | ewes some of which were in particularly gopd order and malce a ready appeal to graziers. The best of the 5-yr. lines sold at 44s 7d. Top line wether hoggets made to 35s and ewe hoggets to 42s 6d. The realisations were: Wether hoggets: 119 at 35s; 131 at 33s; 73 at 2Ss 7d; 149 at 29s ld; 98 at 31s 3d; ewe hoggets, 112 at 38s; 55 at 42s Od; 56 at 27s 9d; 146 at 35s 7d; Down cross hoggets, 62 at 26s 3d; Down cross 2-th wethers, 75 at 37s 9d; small 2-th. wethers, 36 at 35s 9d; M.S. hoggets, 38 at 21s 9d; In-lamb ewes, 5-yr rw S.D. rams 136 at 39s 8d; 81 at 23s 4d; 70 at 44s 7d; 64 at 43s lOd; 180 at 35s; 76 at 42s 4d; 361 6-th to 4-yr. at 36s; 50 m.a. at 42s 6d; 67 m.a. at 46s. Station Cattle The nioderate yarding of station cattle brought together a representativa. attendance of buyers who were influenced somewhat, by the very favour able weather conditions, in market trends. Although the country is in extraordinarily good order for this period of the winter, there was no very activdemand for cattle but a steady enquiry at rates just tending to be a little firm er. Many of the pens were passed in but the saies made were at prices in keeping with late quotations. Pens of forward condition bullocks found buye:> and small pens of young stock were traded. The saies were: 20 bullocks at £16 15s; 32 at £15 ls; 9 Hereford bullocks at £14 10s; 25 A.A. Hereford cross steers at £14 7s 6d; 27 3off.
