War On Motorists With Glaring Headlights
WELLINGTON, May ^4. The Transport Department^i^ deter.--mined to enforce the regulations concerning motor vehicle headlights. Thi s was stated by the Commissioner of ; Transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson, toda-y. He was discussing the recently announced Dominion-wide drive against faulty headlights. - ; . After enunierating the reqpirements under the regulations, 'Mr.' Laurenson added-that the Department intends to have the reguIa.ta.Qns concerning the dipping of headlights most strictly enforced. Motorists must dip their lights if they are likely'to interfere with the vision of other drivers or riders,_ including cyelists. They must also dip or dim headlights or iise side lights instead of headlights, when the artificial light provides at least 150 feet of clear visibility, when a vehicle is stationary or when approaching^ a traffic pointsman. Where there are street lights, motorists should always drive with lights dipped or dimined. The Commissioner alsQ drew attention to the need for vehieles to carry a high front blue lamp if they were drawing trailers or loaded to more than seven feet in width or 20- feet in : 1 length.
