Two Taxi Drivers Hit Over The Head
AUCKLAND;' May ' 22. j • Two taxi drivers of thb Auckland Coopetative Taxi Society, " were strucnr' ^ over the head in their eabs tonight by two men who then" made ' hff wit'hout paying theif fares. The taxi drivers were Mr. Frederick Appleton, . aged 35, of Point Chevalier,. and Mr. William Booth, of Onehunga. Neither of them was seriously injured. Mr. Appleton,. the victim of the first assault, was/'efigaged about 6 p.m. py two young men who instructed him to drive them to an hotel in the city. As the taxi driver was pulling up outside the hotel, he was hit on the head by one of the passengers. He shouted for help and the men left the car and disappeared. The second assault took place Outside Greenlane Hospital about 9 o'clock. After accepting a fare from two men from Newmarket to the hospital, Mr. Boo.th had just stopped his taxi and
