TENOR ROYAL WON NARROWLY IN FOXTON CUP
Sprint Honours To General Victory
After being in sixth. place behind High Order, Master Fox, Kippo, Joe's Cobber and Ngakoti as the Foxton Cup field ran to straight, Tenor Royal raeed through to have charge at the distance and he went on strongly to win by half a length from Sheilwyn, which finished brilliantly from a long way back. Ngakoti, always fairly well placed, finished solidly for tliird less , than half a length away, and fourth was Silver Pal which- flashed np to nose Master Fox out of fourth money. Silver Pal was only a head away from Ngakoti in a thrilling finish..
£14,592 Totalisator Increase The day was delightfully fine and the course was in first-class order. Th.e programme was pnt through right to time, and there was a very large at- ; tendanee. Last year this meeting was held in rain and the totalisator turn- ! over was £38,439. On Saturday the • machine hand-led £53,031-1., the increase j being £14,592^. • ' Onae again the portable electric totalisator did great work and it was only a matter of seconds between the closing of the machine and the ali clear signal for the start of the races. Three Jockeys Injured Three jockeys were injured durmg the day. When Il-Corona came to grief after the steeplechase field had cravelled a mile his rider, T. Iiowe, sustained injuries to an arm necessitatiug ten stitches. When Gay Stitches fell during the running of the hurdles his rider, T. Goff, had a toe broken and sustained a slight eoncussion. During the running of the First Moutoa Back Handicap Ubbriaco got on the heels or La Selle and went down. B. Kyan, who rode Ubbriaco, fell heavily and sustained serious injuries to his face, also to a wrist and shoulder. He was taken to hospital.

There was a good field for the opening event, and until Tudor Chief ran to the front half a mile from home there appeared to be every chance ot a good finish. However, Imperial Crown and Speed King had set a torrid pare' from the start and they were still going strongly commencing the last roniid. Then the field began to string? out, and when Tudor Chief dashed into th.e lead there was nothing left to match him for pace and he won as he liked by six lengths from Imperial Crown which beat Captain Jesse by two lengths. Tid-Apa was going well a mile from home and she finished fourth. Kext were Peter Quex, Sailor's Song and Speed King. Il-Corona, when moving up to take on the leaders after tliey had gone. a mile, blundered at the fence and lost kis rider. The winner paid a good double-figure dividend. In the first division the pacemakers to the straight were Turin, Lady Shirley, Polleta, Wembley, which had gone up fast, Haughty Boy and Race Dale, and Turin, in front a furlong ' from home, had to be ridden right out toi beat Wembley by under a length. Poi-] leta was only a head away third and> Lady Shirley, Vale Rosa and Race Dale were next. Golden Robes and Leighbony pilotea the second division into the straignt and Leighbony soon took charge, wmning nicely by well over a length from Golden Robes a length clear of Rappel. Specialist and Bonifort had a tussle for second money and Specialist beat Bonifort by a short head. Foilowing the race a protest was lodged by the owner of Specialist against the winner on the grounds of interference a mile from home as the field ran out of the straight. The pay-out was held up until it was announced that the protest had been dismissed. The order through the straight the first time was Trig Point, Follow Suit, Lucky Anna, Specialist and Waratangi. Lady Myrtle ahcl Kippo, Joe's Coober and Ngakoti, and Lady Myrtle had to be checked as the field made the . turn. Tenor Royal moved up at the hali'-mile where Beguile was also fairly well placed. In the best finish of the day Tenor Royal beat Sheilwyn by half a length. Sheilwyn, which won this race two years ago, looked to be unlucky. Ngakoti was a close third just in front of Silver Pal, Master Fox and Lady Myrtle. . Next were Joe's Cobber and Kippo.
