Increase In Pay Announced For Civil Service

^ WELLINGTON, May 20. Salary and wage increases of from £10 to £22 a year aceording to t!uscales have been granted to civil ser vants and the minimum wages of men and women have been increased by £22 retrospective from July 1, 1048. An order to this effect was issued by the Government Service Tribunal to-day. The schedule of increases is: Employees, male and female, in the clerical, educational and professionai divisions and other male employees by £10 a year for those up to £175 a year, by £15 between £175 and £275, by £22

for over £275; and by ld, 14d or 2^u an hour, or 3s 4d, 5s or 8s 4d a week for hourly or weekly rat^s within the abcve salary ranges. Female employees not included in the above: By £10 for these up to £185; b) £15 between £185 and £275; by £22 fo; over £275; hourly and weekly raten increased the same as for men. . Minimum remuneration: The minimum of £300 a year for adult males is increased to £322; the rate of £225 for adult females is inoreased to £247; anrJ the rate of £331 for married males to £353. For employees paid otherwise than at the annual rate the minimum rate shall be proportionate to the appropriate an nual rate specified in the precediug three scales. Overtime limits: As from July 1, 1948, regulation 6B of the Pubiic Service Eegulatioins shall be applied as if £707 were substituted for £085. The limit of £825 imposed by the Pubiic Service Commission in August 1948 m respect of earnings, penal rates and penal overtime is increased to £847 as from July 1, 1948. Allowances: Rates or travelling, relieving and lodging allowances specilied in the Pubiic Service Regulations §hall not be affected- except that from July 1, 1948 the salary rates prescribed shall be increased in accordance with this ap plication. Part-time workers: Employees whost normal hours are less than 40 a week shall receive a pro rata increase based on the appropriate scale of increases. Oceupational elasses: For the purposes of this prineipal order only the Tribunal prescribes the following oceupational elasses: Employees doing administrative, legal or clerical work, those doing scientific, meteorological or researeh work and not included in the preceding class, officers in the professionai division of the Department of Agriculture and those in the general
