Victoria College Jubilee Celebrations
WELLINGTON, May 1(5. Five hiindred graduates of Victoria University College, wearing acadeinic gowns, signatised the jubilee pf that histitution to-dav by parading' through a part of the city. As the official public displav from the e seat of learning, it* was a rare oecasion. Dons from other University Oolleges- were there too in honowr of - the big event. Some of tlie" most -distinguished in learning wore robes of purple and gold. They made b right splashes of colour. Formet students ; marched in order of the decades at which they were at "the University. The*, Minister of Education Was present and also Mr W. A. Sheat, M.P., wearing pinlc trimmings on his gown. Mr M. 11. Oram, M.P., was up near the front among members of-the couneil. Sir W. E. Berry, of the Uppel* "Ilousej was marchin'g along too. . The hope that the City of Wellington would sponsor a students' hostel for Victoria University College in reeognition of the college jubilee, was expressed by the chairman of the college' couneil, Mr T. D. M. Stout, at £o-day's civic reception to the council, staffi and members of the College, as part-'*of the celeybrations.
