Personal 1 Mr. an'd Mrs. F. Stephenson, of Kirk Street, are on holiday and are visiting the South Island. Miss Lprraine Snooks, of Frankton, is spending a holiday in Otaki , with her aunt, Mrs. R. Eaton, Bell Street. Misses Elaine Taylor and Betty Whetren, of Mill Road, have returned after a fortnight's holiday visit to Whangarei. The death occurred at Silverstream Hospital recently of Mr. Charles Peckham, aged 79 years. He spent many y§ars in Otaki and district, where he was held in high regard. Remand Granted. Charged with being drunk in charge of a vehicle in Waerenga Road, Otaki, on May 14, George Martin Humphrey f ailed to appear when cal ed before Mr. W. A. Calwell, VJ.P., in the Police Court on Mon'day morning. Sergeant W. S. Hughes advised that a telephone messdge had been received to the elfect that Humphrey was sick. He was remanded for a week. Motor Collision. When turning out of Ngaio Street into Tasman Road on Saturday afternoon, a truck was involved in a collision with a car travelling towards the beach. The car procee'ded on its way, and the police and the traffic inspector were notified. Following a search, the car was later intercepted by Sergeant Hughes. Fortunately no one was hurt as a result of the collision, but. the truck, a late model one, was damaged. Shooting Season Disappointing. Reports from local sportsmen reveal that the weather over the weekend was certainly "good for ducks," but disappointing for those pursuing them. One party of seven secured a medium bag of 43 on opening morning, while a party of 14 took the grand total of five. On the second morning thick mist over the lakes could not be penetrated until after 8) a,m. and results were again below hooes.
