Applications For Commercial Building In Levin

An application for the approval of the building of a dance sludio fronting her houss in Oxford Street was made to ldst night's bbroiigh council meeting by Miss 1 Jeah Scott's School of Dancing. It Wds stated that the proposed studio wbuld be a separaie building from the house. Approval was granted; A permit to make altefatiofls to the Queen Street side of the bar of the Levin Hotel was a.pproved. It was stated that the a terations, approved by the Police, the Licensing Committee, and also strongly recommended by them, consisted bf bringing the wall out to the levbl of the footpath, a distance of sevbn feet. This would haye the effect bf providing . more room in the baf, which was at presept congested, and although the hotel was in' a brick area and. the recbnstructibn would be in wood, the effect woUld be to reduce the fire hazard. ATerations to the- property in Oxford Street of Mr. W. Neville, which were described as the ffebuilding of the focjms in front bf the house in order to cohveft thehi lo a photo studio, weffe also abproved. It was stated that the building was in the brick area, bUt that the alterations would reduce the fire hazard and that it .was not a cafee of making new . additions.. The council felt that in those circufhstances no obiection could be taken.
