Soviet Troops In Bloody War With Guerrilias
Tuesday, 31 12.44 1.8 Received Monday, 9.35 a.m. . NEW YORK, May 15. Two divisions of Soviet troops in the Ukraine and two in the Caucasus are aiding loeal police forces in intermittent but bloody warfare against anti-Communist guerrilias, according to information seeping out of Russia, reports the New York Times military correspondent, Mr. Hanson Baldwin. He says that the guerrilias, who. at present are no threat to- Moscow, are nevertheless in sizeable numbers . and their determined resistance, which has persisted since the war, has not been broken. The Ukranian resistance is centred in the Carpathian mountains, but some resistance is also reported eisewhere. Less is known of the Causasus fighting, but the insurgents there seem t® be Cossack deserters from the Soviet Army with the same NaIzonalist seoaratinnist fervour which marks the Ukrahian insurgency.
