Youth Appears On Crutches To Answer Charge

Two youths, one of whom was on crutches, appeared. in the Children's , : Court, , in Levin recehtly cha.rge'd witii the serious offehces of housebreaking, three charges of theft and of the unlawful conversion of a motor car. It was stated by Sergeant W. Graihger that' the' car,' which Was being driven at an excessive speed in PaimerstOh North, had collided with a power pole, both offenders being seriousiy injijred and la.ter a'dmitted to fiosoital. The car, which Ipad been unlawfully converted from Levin, was a new one valued at £595. , ti had been damaged to tfeG' extent of £375 as the result of the collisiori. In committing - fcoth accused to the care of ' the superintendent of child weifare. the magistrate, Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., ssi'd that the injuries suffered by them should be a severe lesson to them that crime did not always pay. They had converted and excessively damsged a new car and although in their present condition neither would be able to work, thev would no doubt be able to in the future when tbev recovered. In view of these circumstances he wou'd adjourn the question of restitution sine die.
