Mr Neville Duke, 27-year-old test pilot, flew a Hawker Eury fighter from London to Rome today in two hours 32 rninutes and broke the record for the flight by 19 rninutes. He covered the 910 miles at average speed of 359 miles an hour, Mr Duke flew on in an attack on the London-Karachi record and covered the next stage of his flight — 1222 miles from Rome to Nieobia — in three, hours- 15- rninutes at an average speed of 376 miles an hour. A message from Karachi states thfht Mr Duke has arrived there, knocking three hours 54 rninutes o££ the Loudon to Karachi record. - In the hop from London to Rome his Hawker Fury, which is a fighter .with a piston engine, beat the record set np by a jet engined Vampire. The London to Karachi record was held by a Lancaster bomber.
