Annual Meeting Of Red Cross Sub-centre

At the annual meeting of the Shannon sub-centre of the Red Gross Society, heM last week, there was only a f air attendance of piembers. The president, Mrs. J. A. Easton, thanked ali present for their continued interest and welcomed two newcomers to the district. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. H. W. Knowles and Mr, A. Martin was passed in silence. The third annual report stated that the membership remaine'd atthe same level as last year. The year had been a successful one and closed with a satisfactory credit balance. "Though with us only a short time, we regretted losing Mr. J. Cartier, who moved to Welling-| ton during the year, and later a valuable member in Mrs. . Rasmussen also left the district and we were sorry to lose her," continued the . report. "We were pleased to welcome the Mayoress, Mrs. D. A. Fitzgerald, as our patroness and an active member. "The general membership is now 27, though only the committee of 12 members takes an active part in the working of the society. On April 13 a street stall for local funds was held «and realised the satisfactory sum of £21. In response to a request from the Mayoress, a spiendid collection of warm clothing was donated by the committee members to the United Nations chil'dren's appeal, and we note with great satisfaction that nearly all the women's organisations in the district followed he lead given by the. Red Cross. Thus the Mayoress was able to send two large cartons of clothing to the Palmerston North Red Cross Centre, and, in a letter recognising the gift, the secretary made special mention of the' excellent quality of the goods. "Through thfe courtesy of Mrs. Griffiths, leader ' of the wartime E.P.S., a special collection of new bandages, swabs, cotton wool an'd handkerchiefs has been forwarded to Corso, together with a good collection of varied articles and clothes donated by committee members throughout the year. A weekly magazine has been donated to two special cases. The sum of £2 2s has been -donated to the Leper Christmas appeal, and a
