Sale Of Season Tickets By Rugby Union

"I would like to draw the attention of the council to the fact that the Horowhenua Rugby Union is selling season tickets in Foxton for £1 with a double t^cket at 30s," said Cr. Small at a meeting of the Foxton Borough Council. "I consider this is a 'fast one' on the part of the union, to deprive the coun cil of its rightful share of the gate takings," he added. "Point of order!" called Cr. Cochran. "That is not correct!" The Mayor: Are you satisfied, Cr. Small? Cr. Cochran, who is the local delegate on the union, says your statement is not correct. Cr. Small: No, I am not. We have another delegate as well. This is the only occasion on which season tickets have been on sale in Foxton and it followed a decision by . the council to make a 20 per cent. gate charge for the use of the park. This is not proper. I will not divulge where I obtained my information, but you can take it from me that some hard things were said against this council at the rugby union meeting. The idea behind the sale of tickets is that we will be deprived of our 20 per cent. of the gate takings only unless we demand our share of the ticket money too. The Mayor said he thought it was a little too early to take any action. - Cr. Cochran with some heat: This is absolutely untrue. I am selling the tickets locally and thgy are for any games in the whole district. Manawatu did the same thing last year. Nothing was said ahout the council at the union meeting and I will resign from this council if you can get another delegate to come along and say that I said anything about the council. I am absolutely disgusted to think anyone would think I would do such a thing. The Mayor: No one said that. We are not . discussing the union di'scussion. I believe that the union will do the right thing by the council. v ) Cr. Field: Maybe so, but if everyone bought a season ticket we would receive nothing. The Mayor: That is so. No' action was taken.
