Man In Court Following Shooting
William Henry Soanes, 33-year-old labourer, married, of Akitio, appeared before Mr. J. R. Herd S.M. in the Magistrate's Court at Palmerston North yesterday eharged with diseharging a firearm at Riehard John Peck with intent to maim, disable, or do grievous bodily harm. .Senior Detective O. Power asked for a remand until next Tuesday. Mr. L. Laurenson, for Mr. Gazley, of Wellington, asked . that bail be allowed. Aeeused had assured him that the affray had been eaused by drink and would not happen again. . Mr. Power opposed the granting of bail and stated that' the type of offence with which Soanes was eharged was beeoming too prevalent. At least six shots were fired through a neighbour's window into a room occupied by a man, his wife and children, a shot had been fired at another man, and aeeused had threateped the wife of the neighbour.
