Te Horo Institute Holds Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Te Horo Women's Institute was held recently in the Te Horo Hall, wheni there was the customary good attendance. Mrs. W. S. Clark (president) , occupied the chair and welcomed all. The motto for the month, "Never despair, but if you cannot avoid so doing, work on in despair," was given by Mrs. J. Robinson. Reference was made to Miss Nona Smith's approaching marriage. Miss Smith has been an active member of the institute drama circle for the past two years, and very- best wishes for her future happiness, with regret at her pending departure, were expressed. A visitor from Masterton, Mrs. A. Anderson, was introdueed by Mrs. H. Windley and accorded a hear^y welcome. Members expressed delight at the receipt of a cablegram from the Partington institute, England, conveying Easter greetings. This institute is a link to which members have sent food parcels. " Mrs. H. Windley gave another of her able demonstrations, this time on the re-covering of an umbrella. The practical and interesting way in which the work was explained fired members with enthusiasm and it is expected that many umbr ellas with a "new look" will be in evidence as a result. A very comprehensive report on the federation council meeting at Paremata, which eight of the Te Horo members attended, was read by Mrs. R. Johnson. A delightful afternoon tea followed, served by the host esses, Mesdames-J. Cocker and J. Duncan. Competition winners were: — Flower: Mrs. O. Shirnack 1, Mrs. G. Brown 2, Mrs. D. Lyttle 3. Sand posy: Mrs. D. Grant 1, Mrs. O. Shirnack 2, Mrs. C. Sutton 3. Botfcled peaches: Mrs. D. Grant 1, Mrs. C. Sutton 2, Mrs. O. Shirnack 3. A further competition prize, donated by Mrs. G. Marino, was won by Mrs. D. Lyttle.
