A Werington civil engineer, Mr. W. Ju'ius Hyde, will be a candidate for ihe Miramar seat at the general election this vear as an Indeoendent. Mr. Hyde unsuccessfully contested the Wellington Central seat in 1943, when the four candidales included the Prime Minister. The present member for Miramar is the Minister of Works (Mr. SemplC) who has announced his intention to sbCk ra-election. A the monthiv meeting of the Horowhenua Marching Association's executive last night the S'ecretary-treasurer, Mr. A. L. Dob!son, who shortly leaves for Aus- , tralia, tendered his resignation. Ajppreciation of his services was placed on record, Mr. Dobson hav.ing held the oosition since the inception of the assoCiation in November, 1946. Mr. W. Shilton was appointed as his successor.
