Girl Fatally Mauled by Lion
JOHANNESBURG, May 8. An 11-year-old girl, Marie Vandermerwe, was dragged into.a lion's cage. and fatally mauled before her parents' eyes at Nelspruit miniature zoo this afternoon. The child was looking at ihe lion with her face pressed against • the bars of the cage when suddenly an animal seized her round the waist and dragged her in. Onlookers tried to force the lion and his mate away from the child with sticks, but not until the animals had been shot by , the keepers was the body recovered.
