SHANNON JUNIORS SCORE OVER TOKOMARU
Shannon juniors beat Tokomaru by 15 points to three in a rather one sided game on the Shannon Domain. The home team had the better of the. game from the kick off. From a ruck just after the start Roberts took the ball up to the Tokomaru line, but a penalty to the visitors relieved the position for them. A scrum went down near Tokomaru's 25 and the ball came out to Roberts, who sent it on to Pratt and he went over. Cole missed with the kfck. . A good run by Peach was sport by a knock on and soon after an infringement by Shannon gave Tokomaru an opportunity to even the score, when Gydev kicked ? penalty. The ball Was no sooner set in motion again when Shannon were awarded a penalty kick, which Co'e failed to place over the bar. The kick off once more saw the visitors penalised, but Roberts missed an easy kick. Simpson opened the attack for Tokomaru with a smart run down the field, and a certain try was missed througb over eagerness. Play continued up and down the field, with both sides striving to score, until half time sounded. The second half opened in brighter style, with the home back° throwing the ball about in good style. An infringement by Toko-
maru gave the home side a free kick and Co^e placed the ball neatLy between the uprights to gain the lead, which they held throughout the game. Tokomaru were now pressing hard and were on the Shannon line when a knock-on spoiled their chances of scoring. A free kick saw Gyde miss a goal for the visitors and Sherwood, Keriona and Peach took the ball back to Tokomaru ground. From a scrum most of the home backs handied the ball and sent Roberts over to score. Cole fai'ed to add the extra ooints and the scoreboard read: Shannon 9, Tokomaru 3. From the kick off Shannon were again on the attack and the forwards, led by Southee, Rolston and Andrew, took play down field, where Sherwood passed to Jamieson, who went over to add further points to Shannon's total. Cole again missed the kick. Tokomaru again attacked and sent play upfield towards the Shannon 25 and Simpson found the line with a good kick, but from the line-out Spring sent Peach off on a brilhant run, with the Tokomaru defence' wide open, and Peach scored an unopposed try. Cole's kick again failed and the score was Shannon 15, Tokomaru 3. Play continued around the centre of the field until the final whistle without change of score.
