America and Australia May Co-ordinate Defence
CANBERRA, May 6. Australia has offered to mtegrate her defences completelv with those of the United States, according to the Minister of Defence (Mr Dedman). He did uot reveal whether the United States had ac.cepted the offer. Mr Dedman 's statement is regarded as signifieant in view of the recent presenee in Ameriea of Sir Fredericlc Shedden, Secretary of the Defence Department, who is considered Australia 'a head man on defence organisation and international collaborabion. Mr Dedman idded that if the Australian plans icould be fitted in with those of Ameriea in such a way that both countries could benefit there was not likely to be any opposition by either Government. When the above cable was referred to him last night the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Nash) said: "No diseussions having as their purpose any integration of the defence of New ZealaPd with the United States have so far taken plaee."
