MR. SAMUEL ROLSTON
The recent passing of Mr. Samue Rolston brought to a. clos'e. a llfe , span of nearly 1.Q0 years. He was J bprn at Portadqwn,. Noxthem He land, on January 2, 1852. In 1879, the year of the wreck of the Hyderabad at Wai- ■ tarere, he left for Sydney, and lator took part in the Coo.gardie go d rush. While in Sydney he ma.rriedMiss Elizabeth Henderson, who.- p'redeceased him 18 years ago. At the instigation of the w.ellk.nown pioneer resident of Ohau, his brouher, Mr. Richard A. Rolsr ton, the family came to N,ew Zea.-' land in 1900 and engaged in farming at Qhau, later sett ing at Ihakara, where Mr. Rolston carried on. farming until his retirement. Through of a retiring nature, he was a jvell-known and respected figure of the distriet. Despite his age he was an active member of the Levin Bowling Club till his recent illness. To m-ourn his loss Mr Rolston is survived by two sons, Messrs. RiChard Rolston and James Rolston (Levin), and four daughters, Mesdames E. Mitchell and E. Greenaway (Levin) , and. L, Shf nnon (Palmerston North) , and Miss T. Rolston (WellingtonJ . There are 10 grandchildren • and nine great-grandchildren. ' Four grandsons were overseas with the forces, one of whom, Flight-Lieu-tenant Frank Ro s-on, paid the supreme sacrifice whi^e serving as a pilot with the R.N.Z.A.F. in the Paeific.
