Salaries Of Hospital Officers
WELLINGTON, May 5. Remits expressing coneern at the lixnit imposed under -stabilisiation, on the salaries of executive oflicers and specialista, were referred to the executive for action at today 's eonference of the New Zealand Hospital Boards' Association. A joint- Wellington and Wanganui remit said the stabilisation re'gulation was a distinct" disadvantage in appointing 'aiid retaining -fl.rst-'class executive oiiie■ers 4 and speei'alists; ' ' We are appailed at the" way many old people are li-ving today," said Mr jR. Harding (Hawke's Bay), in moving that a- uniform national policy be nrgenly put into eEect to ensure meeting the aecommodation needs of aged persons. A remit was. passed that, in order to define normal standards in all seetions of hospital board establishments, the executive set up a committee with power to eo-opt advisory members and m collaboration with hospital boards, to publish a report thereon. Mr J. Grierson (Auckland), in advoeating standardisation, mentioned that there were formerly 23 different sizes of dressing bowls in use in New Zealand hospitals -but this number ' ' by a littl^ adjustment and simplifleation, " had been reduced to seven. The association was told by a delegate that a member of a board had been required to refund ls 9d and resign his seat. This was beeause., as trustee of a will, he h-ild a-'liftieth share in a couipany whieh had a transaetion with the board. The ls 9d was his profit. The eonference decided to urge that members of local bodies with only teehnieal or mieroscopic interests in transactions, should not be debarred from holding offi.ee.
