Plans For School Jubilee Progress

The jubiiee arrangements- for the Shannon School were taken a step further last evening, when Mr. R. J. Law, chairman of the Jubiiee Committee, nresided over a meeting of the various committee heads in the school. Mr. Law stated that tirne was now running short and there was still much to do, but the majority of the planning was now well in hand. Reporting on the jubiiee ball, Mr. F. J. Lucinsky stated that an agreement had been reached between his committee and the football club regarding the admission price. This was fixed at 7s 6d per head. The orchestra has been engaged and the catering arranged. Minor details are still receiving attention. Altogether the ball committee is progressing very favourably and the co-operation between the two organisations is excellent. MesSrs R. R. Lind and K. Mitchell reported on the progress being made by the banquet committee. Catering arrangements were under way and a suggested toast list was presented. The final arrangements in this nature being left to the' banquet committee as was the arranging of one or two suitable items.

A financial statement was presented by Mr. L. J. Bowler, which showed the committee to have a credit bf almost £140. Some 136 persons had notified their intention of being present at the eelebrations and at least 20 required accommodation. Arrangements were made for the making of wreaths which will he placed on the South African War Memorial and the Cenotaph during the parade. It was agreed that a jubiiee cake should again be made and Mr. Bovis will attend to this. He also stated that he had arranged for a supply of bunting, and suggested other items for the decoration of the town over the jubiiee period. Further publicity in outside districts was left in the hands of Messrs T. S. Downes and J. T. Bovis. It was agreed that a function be arranged for the Thursday afternoon for the present school pupils. There will be a school holiday on the Friday. A special effort is to be made to contact the first teachers and the first day pupils. The roll call will cover the first week of the school's activities. Mr. Bowler advised that he had . contacted three photographic studlos regarding the photo rights and after discussiorf it was agreed that these be let to a Palmerston North studio. Mr. F. O. Burtt reported fully on the preparation of the booklet and ■ it was asked that all matter be in the hands of the booklet committee no later than May 14. It was moved that Mr. Bovis be appointed director of ceremonies for the jubiiee. Mr. H. E.
