Fate Of Queen Street Elm Trees Deferred

, The fate of the cork elm trees in Queen Street East, which have been cfiusing tr'ouble through their tendency to send out>suckers inio adjoining gardens and lawns and also the footpaths, is to be reconsidered. At Monday night's meetings of the Levin Borough Council the whoie question was referred back to the works committee. The Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, stated that he wou'd like to see the committee go thoroughly into the matter and make every possible efio-t to prevent the necessity of cutting them down. • An expert opinion from Massey Agricuitural College expressed the • view that they should be replaced with witch elms, which did not sucker. The college recommended this type of e'm for street planting in the borough, together with certain other flowering and native trees.
