Britain Does Not Want Spain Admitted To U.N.
Received Tuesday^ 9.40 a.m. LONDON, May 2. Britain wi-11 not support any United Nations move to adm: Spain and send Ambassadors ' fcack to Madrid. Mr. Christopher Mayhew, Parliamentary , Under -Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said 'this in the House of Commons today in rep1; to a question by Mr. Francis NoelBaker (Labcur), who since the wai has traveUed in Spain making unofficial contact wi^h the opposition. Mr. Mayhew added: "So far as I am aware. no proposa's to rescind the recommendation of the United Nations Assembly of December 12, 1946, have yet been before the present meeting of United Nations. I would like to reaffirm that if a move is made to rescind the United Nations recommendation about the withdrawal of Ambassadors and thfe expulsion of the present Government of Spain from speeialised agencies, we do not intend to support it." ,
