Building Work Shows No Sign Of Slackening

The monthly, review of building in Levin shows' that in Apri'l there were 90 buildings under construction in the borough, tMs nuihbei oeing exclusive of St'ate housing. In his report to a tneeting bf the Levin Borough Council last night. the building ihspector, Mr. H. T. Ti yard, added that there had been no let up in building during the month bf April, although a cement shor.age had held up the s'tart oi a few new dwellings, During the month four dwellings were cOttipieted and four commeheed. A number of sheds and garages were Under. way and aiSO severa- workshops. In one of the Sbate housing biocks, three single ahd on$ aouble Ufiitl houses had been OCcupied and' anolher double unit -and two sing e Units were at the paper-hanging stage. In an other block two houses had been completed, and of the re* maining two one was roofed and the other would be ready for roofing in a few days. Work had been coxistanl in this block . since the report. In a third block, added Mr. Tfyard, one double unit was com^eted excent for the exterior painting and two further double units framed. S.eady progress had made in the fourth block. Two singie units, each with three bedrooms, and one single unit of two bedrooms' were ready for paperhanging. Seven permits were issued durApril for private dwellings tc the value of £10,666, cbmpared .wi b 10 during the same perio.d last year when the tatai vaiue Was £16,007.
