Received Friday, 7 p.m. LpNDON,, April 29. Nine German? yrere arrested in Darmstadt- on charges. of possessing 4|lbs. of radio.-active uranium — a material used in atomie bombs. The Associated Press 's. Frankfnrt correspondent quotes American Army agents as saying, that the Germans were ' arrested when they offered to sell the uranium for £750. The Germans yyere earrying; ore wrapped in' a newspaper in a brief case without any protection from its rays. The agents said it had been' proved to be radio-active. A cheiqist had toict them it could prove- harmful to anybody exposed to it even for 20 minutes. The newspaper Frankfurter Neue Presse said the Germans offered to sell the ore to che Army agents in the belief that it was to be smuggled to " the Russian zone of Germany. The Army agents worked on the case for about six weeks before making arrest. AU nine Germans were chargea with violating the American Mini tary Govemment's ordinance banning the possession and sale of wai material.
