BASKETBALL
Saturfiay will mark the opening oi the 1949 Horowhenua basketball season when the first round of the association s competitions will begm on the 'College courts. Clubs have begun intensive training and with many new players in the teams the results of the first games .wiT lio doubt arouse a great deal of interest among basketball supporters. ; The strength of the new Athietic : club is as yet unknown, but rumour has it that JTiey will be a team ' to be reckoned with in the B grade. No new teams have been entered ; in the A grade competition, but even theref where many changes liave been made in teams, there is no indication yet of the strength of each. J'he C grade, which caters for primary school pupils a'nfi junior c.oilege teams, and which is to a large extent the training ground for senior players, will field almosi complete'y new teams. i A'ltogether some 250 girls will take p .rt in association basketball this season, but some clubs are still open to new players.
