HOCKEY
The formafion of Lwo new men's teams at. Kimber ey will givc an added boost Lo the Horowheniia Hockey Association's coaipetiuons this season. the ofiicial commencement of which takes piace on 3a,ui'day. In all there wiT now be 12 teams playing in the competitions, six men's and six women's — an improvement on the position last season, when there were four men's and six women's teams. ,, This is the second season since the reformation of the Horowhenua Hockey Association and from the gcneral strength of the teams it shoulfi be a most in eresting one. The women's teams were down by one — a Foxton team — at one stage, but this unfortunate loss "was compensated for by the forma ion of a women's team at Shannon. It is some 13 years since hockey was P ayed in Shannon and it is to be hoped that this move will see the rebirth of interest in the sport and perhaps encourage the formation of a men's team or even more teams. The association is fortunote in its grounds this year. there n'-w being six grounds all in good shope. The two new ones are at Foxton and Kimberley. Referees are very short, however, and it is to be
hopefi that old players will rally round . and help out by acting in (this capacity.
