DUNEDIN, April 27. Compulsory unionism was not in the best interests of the trade union move ment in this country, said the president of the Otago Trades Council (Mr. W B. Richards) to a meeting of students called by the Otago University Radicai (Tub. Ile had advocated its introduc tion, but had since eome to the conclu sion that it was a mistake, although ji» this view he was still in a minorit} within the movement. JMr. Richards was replying to a ques tion raised by a student in the audi ence as to "why he opposed conscriptioe when unions had a form of it in com pulsory unionism.
