Unveiling Ceremony At State School
On Friday afternoon an unveiiing ceremony took place at the Otaki State School, the names of ex-pupils who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War II having been added to those already on the Memorial Fountain. The unveiiing was preceded by a short service, Rev. W. H. Nicholas and Rev. R. Grice both reading passages from the Bible, after which Canon H. E. K. Fry explaine'd the meaning of Anzac. Brigadier-General R. Young performed the unveiiing, the names added being those of E. H. Capewell, A. J. F. Guy, W. Isherwood, F. R. Manz and J. N. Stone, after which Rev. P. Temuera addressed the gathering, first in Maori an'd then in Ehglish. Wreaths were laid by present day pupils, after which the "Last Post" was sounded by Mr. D. Dinnison and the ceremony was concluded with the singing of the hymn, "Onward Christian Soldiers."
