It would seem that the days of the faithful Clydesdale are not yet over and he may return to otir foads to sriVe the hoJse laugh to ; modern motor transport. Labour difficuities and the high costs of keeping its vehicles on the road have culminated in the Levin Borough COuhcil at least givilig thought to a proposal td fevert to the use of the horse and dray for iubbish collection and other borough work. It was suggested by Cr, C. H. Nelson at a meeting on Wednesday night and was seriously discussed. It was stated that Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Palmerston North City CouncilS had also takfen this action. The Mayor, Mr. II. ;3B, Burdekin, said that the matter should bO kept in mind. The trouble Was in finding suitable horses, as he bfelieved they were not being bred these days. Feed was also expensivfe'and hard to get, and there were grazing difficulties. The overseer, Mr. E. Lycette, said the lorry would be preferable in a scattered borough like Levin. The question, howeVer, Will be gone into and opinions secured from the city couhcils mentioned.
