HASTINGS; April '20. 1 With steady rain falling throughout I the sale, buyers of store sheep agam | bid keenly at Stortford Lodge today. j Competition was strongest for lambs 1 which were firm. Other elasses of I sheep also sold at prices elosely reiated i to recent realisations. The yarding | of only 200 head was the sniallest' for | some time so buyers did not have the usual selection. Finer woolled twotooths realised 48s 9d and eoarsei woolled sorts 45s 6d. - Less attractive two-tooths sold at 35s 3d. Four and six-tooth sold at 35s, and age marked four and five-year-olds mouthing up well, brought 33s. The niarket _ for shorn wether lambs topped at 33s, and another quality iine traded at 32s 6d. Others brought 30s 2d. Woolly wether lambs made 27s 6d to 28s lld, shorn ewe lambs 34s 6d and Dovvn-eross lambs 33s 6d. Fattening propositions other than lambs were in short supply. ^ A line of wethers changed hands at 38s „ 4- oflo

6d, and iight fattening ewes at -.us, ^ with one pen passed in at 24s 9d. - Quality was not marked in the fat sheep section but niarket was steady at recent rates. There was a moderately short yarding and butchers provided good "competition. Prime aged ewres realised 32s 4d to 33s ld with inedium weights at 27s 7d to 30s 4d, and light at 23s 7d to 26s 4d. .^rime young Down ewes changed hands at 35s lOd to 38s lOd. Prime wethers made to 43s lOd with light at 37s lOd. Heavy lambs exc'hanged at 38s ld to 39s lOd, others briijging 33s ld to 35s lOd.. Although about half the oiiering of 290 head of store cattle was passed in at auction, the niarket was actuaily brighter than many anticipated. A good bench of buyers bid welJ within certain limits and paid most attention to cattle requiring iittle topping off. Three-off steers were sold at from £13 12s to £15 15s and two-off steers at £11 12s. Buyers operated within restricted limits in the fat cattle market and values eased to be on par to slightly iu advance of schedule rates. The poor market was attributed to congestion at

the works following the holiday break. Buyers were confronted with a large yarding of 244 head which included bullocks of good weigkt and quality for which the easing was more pronounced. In some instances vendors refused to meet the niarket. Heavy- i weight A.A. bullocks in prime wellfinished order, topped the sale for ox beef at £24 13s Gd.
