1 — l WANGANUI, April 20. Addressing a meeting at GonvilU Mr. P. W. Doidge, M.P. for Tauranga, said that workers should realise thai production, of the couutry had to be increased, Q.v the couutry would collapse One £&ctor which retarded produp tion, he said, was the difficulty in persuading men to work overtime. The unions realised that with high taxatiou a large portion . of their earnings wa? taken by the Government. The only solution to this was removal of taxation from overtime. '"Mr. Nash made promises that when the war ended, taxation would be reduced, but that promise has never been fulfilled," said Mr. Doidge-. Before the 1914-18 war New Zealand paid £6,000,000 in taxation, but today the amount was £126,000,000. In spite of World War II being over for some years, Mr. Nash was gathering m'ore taxation than ovnr. ,
