Maori Labourer Remanded On Murder Charge
AUCKLAND, April 20. Charged with the murder of Govind Ranchhod, aged 58, Indian hawker, at a house in Nelson Stre^t yesterday. William Ruha Matthews, aged 28, Maori labourer, appeai^ed in. the Police Court today. Matthews, who was dressed in a smart blue suit and open neck yellow shirt, was handcuffed to a conSenior Detective Fell said that the case would take some time to prepare. He asked for a remand until May 5, subject to accused's consent. . Matthews, who was not represented hy counsel, was asked bv the magistrate, Mr. E. McCarthy, if he consented to a remand. Matthews, in a low voice, agreed and was remanded accordingly.
