New Broadcasting Director Appointed

The appointment of the Assistant Direetor of Broadcasting (Mr. William Yates) as Director of Broadcasting, in place of Professor James Shelley, whose retirement will begin next week, is announced by the Minister of Broadcasting, (Mr. Jones). Mr. Yates, who has had a wide and varied experience in broadcasting, recently returned from a visit to England, Canada, and the United • States of Ameriea, where he investigated up-to-date methods of broadcasting administration and overseas trends in broadcasting teehniques. He joined the broadcasting service in 1934. A tribute to Professor .Shelley 7s services was paid by Mr. Jones. He said that during his 13 years as director, Professor Shelley had steered broadcasting through a diffieult period in its development in New Zealand which would continue to derive pleasure and service from many of the 'improvements in broadcasting he had introduced.
