Personal. Mrs. C. G. Anderson, of Tasman Road, has returned from a holiday visit to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Heath Simcox, of Forest Lakes, have returned. to Otaki. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Kendrick, of Qtaki Raiiway, liave returned after a holiday visit to Napier and Hastings. Fire Boarcl Meetings. The quarter,y and annual meetings of the Otaki Fire Board are now to be held on Wednesday, May 4. Card Evening. The Otaki Band held its fortnightly card evening in the Druids' Ha 1 on Tuesday night, when there was the usual pleasing attendance. Winners were Mesdames W. Anderson, A. HobsJn aird H. Grant, and Mn R. Malier. Paper Shortage At Ilome. Indications otf the shortage of paper in the Old Country are piainly evident from the fact that commercial envelopes received from time to time are often made from interesting war maps, the reverse side being used. Choosing Labour Candidate. Five candidates for Parliamentary honours addressed a largelyattended meeting of the Labour Partv, Otaki electorate, in the
Druids' Hall on Monday night. Reports are that all speakers created a good impreSsion and the party should eventually have a first class candidate to offer when further such meetings are held and voting takes place to decide who is to ' contest the seat. Bowling Tourney. The weekend bowling tournament organised by the Otaki Rail- > way Bowling Club drew a full green, 16 rinks taking pare. Visitors were present from Wellington, Island Bay, Petone, Petone Central, Plimmerton, Foxton and Otaki. Many close games resulted, with even haeds the order of the day. Otaki Raiiway withstood all cha--lenges for supremacy, and a rink consisting of A. Bennett, E. Hart, A. D. Webster and O. H. Symonds (skip) won the trophies on offer. A similar tournamem is set down for the first of May, when the club will close the season.
Boy Runners' Performanccs. Competing in the Horowhenua College intermediate championships recently, Stewart Fox, of Rangiuru, returned some excellent performances, but owing to a misunderstanding he made the mistake of competing in more events than he was eligib'e for, resulting in his being disqualified. In the mile event he won his lieai and the final, in the half mile he again secured a duel success, in the furlong he won a heat and ran second • in the final'. He returned a like performance in • the 120 vards hurdles, while in the iong jump he recorded 16ft. lin., four inches ahead of the next best. •
