Oil Production Boosted By New System
i NEW PLYMOUTH, April 11. Daily oil production was last week boosted to 56 barrels at the new Moturoa bore of New Zealand Oil Refineries Ltd., at New Plymouth. This resulted from the operation for ! the first time of a gas lift system | which utilises natural gases to force oil to tlie surface, eliminating pumping f ntirelv. A two-inc-h pipe with 1 regularly-placed one-way valves has been sunk down the 222-foot bore. At t be boitom a "packer" prevents Igas and oil from escaping except via the feed pipe. The flow is controlled 'by a master cock at the liead of the ! bore. No prediction of future production would be ventured by the managing director fMr. F. J. Dobson). A more accurate guess could be made in a fewr days. he stated. However, the bore's present production was more than the refinery could handle, and the output would be controlled as soon as the storage tank was filled. The longer the erude oil was left untreated the less petrol could be extracted. Last month, stated Mr. Dobson, the bore produced 32,000 gallons of crude oil. From this could be produced 800 gallons of petrol, 9600 gallons of kerosene, and 4800 gallons of diesel fuel.
