New Teams Should Boost Local Rugby
There will be eight senior rugby teams in this year s competition in he Horowhenua, which is three more than last seascn. This increase is brought about by the return to the Horowhenua unim of the Foxton Club, which wi 1 bc fieiding a 'senior team, the formation of a senior •i.eam at Paranaraumu and the facc that Otaki and Rahui will field separate teams. The formation of the senior team al Paraparaumu has fceen widely advocate-d of late and L v/ill fill a mucli needed want in the southern end of the union, as weT as increafing interest in the senior competition. At the week y meeang of the management committee last night it was decided to accept the nomination of the eight teams. There are nine junior teams this year in comnarison with ten last year. This decrease, it was decided, wouid make it impracticable t" conduct two divisions in '.his g'racle, as in the past, and it was decidec that one competition only would be run. It was reahred, said members, that this would dil a strain on the finances of some1 clubs, as traveling expenses would be higher, but there appeared no other alternativi. It wou d. however, make . the competition more in.eresting. Nrminations were received and accepted for six third grade and eight f urth grade terms. ' It was decided that the competiions for all grades would run to l wo rounds. th^ managfment committee having the power to add an extra round if and where thought nece'sary.
