Junior Chamber's Fortnightly Meeting
The usual fortnightly tea meeting of the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce was held last night and an interesting account of the 1948 convention was given by Mr. C. B. Greenaway, who, together with Mrs. Grfeenaway, attended the function as the representative of the local chamber. Bqth the business and social sessions were of interest and Mr. Greenaway recommended every Jaycee to attend the 1949 Gonvention, to be heid at Palmerston North. Ile was quite sure that if they did so, it would be the forerunner of them attending many more. Aetiyities of the various groups of the chamber were then enlarged upon by the oonveners, and groups for the ensuing year were formed. An appeal was made on behalf of the Helen 'Lowry Hall for women students at Victoria University, and this resulted in the sum of £21 being raised towards the Levin Chamber's quota of £30. At the conclusion of the meeting the president, Mr. R. Ht Long, said that he felt it encumbent upon him to stress that at the forthcoming municipal election the members of the chamber who were offering their seryices were doing so'purely as individuals, and there was no suggestion of a Jaycee ticket. The chamber was sponsoring no one, nor was it canvassing for votes or undertaking pub'icity on behalf of the candidates.' One of the maln ohjects of the chamber was to induce a sense of ciyic pride, and Mr. Long said he felt that it was through the chamber's efforts that the candidates had seen their duty in that difection and had offered their services accordingly.
