Rugby Referees' Association Elects Officers
The past presidpnt .of the Horowhenua Ruiby. Referees1 Associa'tioh, Mr. J. A. Zuppicich, was reel,ected to the pesition at the ahPAjal meeting of that body last' night. It was "the first time for s.ome %e!ars that an' e'ection was necessary and throughout the elec>r tion. of the new officers there was cbmpetition for the positions. Oommeniting on this the president remarked that it was most ple'aoing to see the npmingtipns coming forr ward and it " augured Well for the -fulpre. In his annual report, the presidenjt said that the season had eommenced with a membership of 15, ten being expprieheed aird five probationary mejnbers.' Another member had been appointed during the year. In all over 150 appoinlments had been made during the season and in view of the smali membership this' was a good indication of the faithful service rendered by mpm.hm
The theory examination for new members has resulted in seveu passes, these mernb.ers qualifying for membership badges, continued Mr. Zuppicicfi. The ctassification committee had graded all members upon their practical work during the year. A severe standard of test was adopted and, in ■ view of the fact that of ten members in grades three and two five were first year members, the results were hearteni'ng. During the year the pei'iod of all meetings set aside for instructional lectures was strictly adhered to and thanks were due to Mr. C. E. Wiseley for making these lectures interesting and instruetive. The following officers were e'ected for the coming year:— President: Mr. J. A. ZuppiciGh; vicepresident: Mr. H. D. Aitchisonj/' secretary : Mr. F. D. Chainey; committee: Messrs C. E. Wiseley, D. McMifian and L. Sayer; delegate to the Horowhenua Rugby Union: Mr. Zuppicich; lecturers:_ Mr. Wiseley; classification committee : Messrs ZuppiciGh, Wiseley and Chainey. Mr. W. Dumbell wrote reqhesting a transfer to the Wellington Referees' Association. The secretary, Mr. C. E. Wiseley, said that this had been done. The association had lost a very promising probationary referee in Mr. Dumbell, said Mr. Zuppicich. Mr. B. McCashin wrote stating that he wou'd be available for refereeing only on two Saturdays out of three. It was decided to send him application papers. A letter from the Athletic Football Club advised that it wished to : recommend that in extreme cases of late tackling the offender should be s ood on the side line. Mr. . Zuppicich. said it was good to see . the clubs take an interest in- these i matters, ' but in this case it was [ already in the ru'es that that s action be taken, and it had been ; done during the last season. It was . decided -to,wfite,to the club. along . those' lines.
