Humour is not often apparent at wool saies, because most of the time the buyers .are too serious about their job and the auctioneers ' too busy. At Timaru, hoWever, th selling in the third catalogue gradually moved on until it reach ed the Merino clip from- the fam* ous Mount Cook run, which produces some of the finest quality wool in New Zealand. The top'of the Mount Cook line this sale was a small 15t of extra good Merino about which buyers had been enthusiastic when they viewed the woOl in the Store. The auctioneer tried to start the bidding at 80'o and he was visibly shaken When the first bid came. It was "a shilling." The lot finally brought 85d.
