"Grumpy" In Retrospect

It is estimated that the number of local and district residents who attended over the two nights of the presentation of "Grumpy" would be 1000, and it must therefor'e go down on the record book as a major success. The Otaki Amateur and Dramatic Society has every reason to be thrilled at the outstanding success of its first venture, and an opinion expressed by, a visitor who has witnessed many simfiar presentations was that it was second to none. When it is taken into consideration that for all but one of 'the cast it was their first appearance, the performance merits high praise, which all who helped in any way are entitled- to share. The set of flats made by the society, the lighting effects and the rapid change of scenery all added lustre to the effort, as did the many necessary duties performe'd back stage, the prompting of Mrs. R. T. Mortiboy, while special credit is due l to Mrs. J. S. Ballinger who was re-j sponsible for the make-up. All performed their duties smoothly and efliciently. It is reported that already numerous requests for a further performance have been made, with members inclining to the view that should these reques s be compfied with society would favour applying any proceeds to the War Memorial Iproject. Following the conclusion of the Second night's performance, an enjoyable supper party was arranged, when the artists and many others \vho had proved most helpful, including several visitors, were entertained. They were welcomed by 'the producer-president of the society, Mr. R. T. Mortiboy, after Vhich many speakers paid tribute to the sterling work done by Mr. 'and Mrs. Mortiboy, who were later presented by the cast and members of the society with a photograph album containing a full set of the stills, and autographed by every members.
