Villages Evacuated Following Flow of Methane Gas

Received Fridav, 10.50 a.m. LONDON, April 7. Hundreds of villagers have been evacuated from Basiasco, a hamlet, in Northern Italy because of a.sud-i den flow of methane gas from cracks in the earth, says the As-j sociated Press' Milan correspondent. The Italian authorities fear big explosions and fires and have ordered the villagers to leave their homes while engineers try to stop the flow of gas. The biggest geyser — a mixture of water, methane, and mud — was reported to have reached a height of 5000 fept.
